Here, our students develop a life-long love of serving those in need and giving generously of their time and unique gifts. We celebrate our shared values with people of all faiths. Reitz Memorial High School is proud to have a stunning, on-campus Chapel Throughout the years, the Chapel has been enhanced and beautified so that today's students can be given a place of great dignity and beauty in which to encounter the Lord in prayer and in the sacraments. Memorial's Chapel is a place of prayer and worship. While Adoration and prayer take place weekly in our chapel, Masses are celebrated in our Auditorium. During all-school Mass, students, faculty and staff gather together. Theology Curriculum The mission of our Theology Department is to proclaim the Gospel through the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. After learning the Foundations of Theology and Sacraments as underclassmen, students will learn more about their faith and the faith of others. Upperclassmen, in particular, are able to take classes such as: Introduction to Scripture The Church Catholic Morality The Christian Life Old Testament in Depth Religions of the World Catholic Apologetics Catholic Identity Our Catholic Identity serves as a guiding influence. We will demonstrate Catholic values through services, faith formation, and leadership opportunities. It is our mission to ensure that all graduates hold a moral compass that places God's love, human decency, and goodness above all else. 2022-2025 Strategic Priorities: Provide inviting, inclusive, and student-centered faith formation for all students. Empower faculty and staff to support and strengthen the mission of Reitz Memorial High School and carry out their ministry in the Catholic faith. Help support our students, parents, and alumni to develop lifelong engagement with their faith and parish community. Service is Integral to a Reitz Memorial Education At Reitz Memorial, our students are offered a number of opportunities to learn the value of service - whether that be of their time, their talent, or their loyalty. On average, Memorial students serve approximately 6,500 hours per year. They serve on campus, in their local communities, and across the globe. Students may participate in school-wide service days, or through partnerships with local food banks and homeless shelters who have partnerships with our school, or with their local church communities. All students must fulfill a service requirement in order to graduate and many go above and beyond their required hours. - Our History | Memorial High School
Explore the rich history of Reitz Memorial High School, from its humble beginnings in 1925 to its impressive expansions and additions over the years. Blue & White Since 1925 About Faculty & Staff Our History Our Campus Strategic Plan Calendar Newsroom Employment "To build means to take raw materials and to create something where nothing existed before. To build means to take an empty shell, an assortment of people, and ideal, and through courage, determination, and spirit, form a school. On a chilly day in January of 1925, 252 students climbed the steps of Reitz Memorial High School and met their faculty for the first time. When these two forces joined, the dream of Francis Joseph Reitz became a reality." In 1922, Francis Joseph Reitz pledged money to build a Catholic h igh school to be built to memorize his parents. Before he purchased the 13-acre tract of vaca nt property on Evansville's Lincoln Avenue, Reitz had searched nearly a year for an appropriate site for the city's new and only Catholic high school. A prominent local financier, Reitz demanded a location accessible by streetcar and near light, gas, and water lines.
